Full Moon Paddle June 14 7:00 pm: New date!

6/11/2014

Location: MONKSVILLE RESERVOIR, NJ

Saturday, June 14th - Full "Strawberry" Moon at YPRC. (Don't attend if you have Friggatriskadekkaphobia !) Actual FM.

PLEASE BE ADVISED, DUE TO ELECTRIC SHUTOFF FOR YPRC REPAIRS, I AM CHANGING THE VENUE FROM THE CLUB TO MONKSVILLE RESERVOIR.

Monksville Reservoir is a great place to paddle day or night and we could all use another beautiful place to paddle! Some of it's features include many upright, in water tree trunks that support wild life, cliffs and rock formations, islands, waterfalls & streams and an historic iron forge & waterwheel which once powered the bellows for the forge. It has a huge parking area & launch (just one of three!) and Kayaking is allowed at night if boats are lit. It is not that far from Yonkers and just a little further (Approx. 5 miles) than going to Lake Sebago, but in the opposite direction off of Rte. 17  (AND NO FEES!). I've seen many ospreys & bald eagles and bears there and once I even saw a bear swim across the lake!

I plan to be up there much earlier like 5:00 or so to paddle around. If you have a radio, Channel 68 will get me.

If not, turn right off the launch & keep paddling 'til you find me.
Launch time - 1900 hrs, or 7:00 PM for most.

YOU MUST WEAR A SECURELY FASTENED PFD & HAVE AT LEAST A WHITE LIGHT (PLUS RED & GREEN IF YOU HAVE.)

BRING STRAWBERRIES TO EAT!

IF YOU HAVE FRIGATRISKADEKAPHOEBIA (fear of Friday the 13th), STAY HOME ;>)

DIRECTIONS:

Take I-87/287 over the Chimpanzee Bridge.
Exit 15A for Suffern/Sloatsburg, (DO NOT take Exit 15 for 287 & Rte.17 South to NJ).
Left onto Rt. 17 North. Take 1st jughandle exit on right for Sterling Forest/Ringwood, (Sterling Mine Rd.)
Left at the 1st stop light.
Right at the Little League Field onto Margaret King Ave..
At end, turn left onto Greenwood Lk. Tpke.(Rte. 511) for just a few hundred feet.
Turn right into gate (You should see the lake & dam in front of you at this point).
Procede to the launch & lot.
