There are weekly group trips, training sessions and a popular club paddle and potluck BBQ. Other activities include sunset and moonlight paddles, day-long skill sessions, a teen paddling program, a boat building workshop and our annual, award-winning circumnavigation of Manhattan.
Tuesday Members Paddle is a group activity for our members. Guided by our more skilled paddlers, we embark on a 90-120 minute paddle on the Hudson from our Alexander Street Boathouse. The length is determined by sunset. We leave the dock at 6:00pm sharp, travel at various paces, but its not for the beginner. On return, we enjoy a post paddle pot-luck dinner. Our members are excellent cooks and the Club provides a grill. As this is an "escorted" paddle, the club owned boats are available for members without their own boats. The club hopes to expand these group paddles to other nights and possibly to Saturday or Sundays. We realize getting to Alexander Street by 6:00PM is not easy for everyone.
Those new to paddling are encouraged to try out the sport at our Free Thursday Paddles at JFK Marina. YPRC will also announce specific times where we encourage new paddlers to join us and helpful volunteers will assist with the subtleties of getting in a kayak, and the basic strokes that make it move. It is easier than you think!
