Public Kayaking at Kennedy

From mid June through mid September YPRC volunteers give the public a chance to experience kayaking in a protected cove using sit-on-top (SOT) kayaks.

These programs are completely free of charge and run on various weekdays between 3:30 PM and 8 PM.

Since we began this program in 2006 we have hosted the following groups:

  • Buena Vista Community Garden Youth Group
  • Boy Scout Troop 5(Yonkers) and Troop 15 (New Rochelle)
  • Nepperhan Community Center
  • Yonkers YMCA
  • Riverdale 4-H Club
  • Yonkers Bike Club
  • Patty J's Youth Group

This public outreach builds good community relations for the club and often serves to recruit new members to the YPRC club. YPRC volunteers who work on this program often make new friends and advance their own skills in the process. In addition, members can bring their own families, co-workers and friends to enjoy the beautiful Hudson River on safe, easy-to-paddle sit-on-top kayaks. A club cargo container by the ramp holds 13 public programs sit-on-top kayaks and one canoe.

For more information or to volunteer, call Jerry Blackstone (914) 318-4630.
